Another Lion Has Left Us!
Lion Russ Martin has passed away this month. Russ was a very hard working Lion and participated in many Lion events. He worked often at the Food Bank and helped wherever he could. We will miss Lion Russ and all the help he gave to those in need, in our area.
The Lions Dinner Meeting was held at the Howard Main Street Methodist Church. The church served a wonderful roast pork dinner with all the trimmings, including homemade pies.
There was a short meeting after the dinner. The sign up sheet for the BEA Special Olympics was reviewed. A motion was made and approved for Ice Cream and Cake to be served at the March Business Meeting. Lions signed up to provide the ice cream and several cakes.
Lion Bob DeArment reported on the Foresight Committee request for funds for eye testing equipment but they had not provided information on all the equipment. A committee of Lions, Directors Leo Klinefelter and Bob Thompson along with Lions Dave Dreese and Ron Davy will attend the next Foresight meeting on April 2nd to try to obtain more information.
Lion Bob Shady reported that sales were going good for the sandwiches, but all the orders were not in yet, as the deadline was March 8th.
Fifteen Lions went to the BEA High School to help with the
PA. State Special Olympic Indoor Field Hockey Tournament. The
Lions manned the lunch lines as the hungry athletes came through.
THANK YOU, for helping these special kids.
The morning started out with a load of food arriving at the Food Bank, at 8 AM. There was lots of help to unload everything.
Lions Bob and Earl went to Lucky Seven to pick up the sandwiches at four o'clock. At five o'clock, the other Lions and some wives showed up to help distribute the over seven hundred sandwiches. Things went well until they were gone.
At seven thirty, the business meeting was called to order and latger we all had Ice Cream and Cake. It was a very busy day but we got a lot accomplished.
The Business Meeting started with some sad news. PIR Harold Ott had to drop out of the running for International Vice-President. Lion Bud Harris told us that Lion Harold had gone to the hospital for a CAT scan and they found a small tumor behind his right ear. The tumor was removed but Harold will need rehab and can no longer try for the Vice-Presidents position. BEST WISHES TO PIR HAROLD.........
Lion Bud also reported that it was time for the Quest Program to be redone. The program is to teach teachers how to deal with bullying, drugs and teen suicide. The clubs portion would be $500.00 to be added to the same amount from two other clubs.
A motion was made and approved that we give our annual donations in the same amount as last year. The donations are to: Beacon Lodge, Camp Victory, NorthEast Eye Bank, the Art Girio Fund, Leader Dog, BEA Leo Club, Allison Memorial Award, and area Little League teams.
Lion Bob Shady reported that the club had sold over 750 sandwiches with the proceeds going to the Club Activity Fund. Lion Earl Thompson reported that 64 good pints of blood were collected this month. Good Work Guys !!! We're back up where we should be....Lion Dwayne reported that we only had two good wheel chairs in stock and only 12 hospital beds. The Club has been helping a lot of people.
The Food Bank was back at normal attendance this month with 257 boxes of food given out and the extra products given by the Centre Country Foundation. Next month, the Food Bank will be open on the 4th and 18th of April. With Spring here, the weather should be a lot nicer for both the needy and us.
